Smart Kidz Radio

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been listening to Smart Kidz Radio: Member’s On-Demand Radio Program Library, an educational and inspirational radio station for kids, from Smart Kidz Radio.
This digital radio library has a wide variety of programming – everything from classical music to world music to science programs to Spanish basics to audio stories. I was pleasantly surprised by how large the library is. They offer blues, jazz, hymns, reggae, Christmas music, oldies, etc. There are educational programs about seals, lizards, chemistry, math, and more. And here’s a peek at what they have coming soon – Broadway, disco, silly songs, Native American music, just to name a few.
Because this is a radio program, there is some talking and narration before and in-between many of the songs. I don’t think it’s a big issue for a lot of albums, but I found it annoying during the bedtime lullabies. I decided against using those for my kids because the intermittent talking breaks up the soothing nature of the lullabies.
There are many other programs we’ve enjoyed though. My oldest particularly likes the stories. There are classic stories like The Three Little Pigs, Robin Hood, and The Frog Prince, and there’s also a series with “Grandpa Tyler,” telling modern-day tales that weave in topics like bed-wetting and truthfulness.
We’ve also been working our way through the large selection of world music. Our co-op is learning about a different country each week, so this has been a fun thing to blend into our studies.
A portion from Smart Kidz Radio’s membership fees (which are a really reasonable $4.99/month or $49.99/yearly) are donated to the SmartKidz Foundation. This non-profit foundation gives financial support to programs that help young people use their talents and career dreams to make the world a better place.
